We had an early start to get our flight to Lima from San Francisco. The limo didn’t show so we had to scramble to drive to SFO with the added excitement of the car not having enough gas. We did make it and eventually got to Houston. After a Tex-Mex lunch and a care package courtesy of Minuben, we were off to the first family trip to South America. We got to Lima late (around 10pm) and took the hotel taxi (a shiny black Mercedes) to the Westin Lima in the San Isidro district of Lima. Lima seemed like a sprawling urban morass but with fairly clean cement roads. Not much traffic at that time of the night but as we were to discover the next day, it is dramatically different once everyone is awake. The town seemed to still be buzzing with people on the streets even at midnight. Noticed Chifa restaurants (the version of Chinese cuisine sold in Peru which is considered to be similar to other Chinese food in the West). The Westin was luxurious as usual and we were sad that we didn’t get to spend more time there since we have to leave at 7:30am the next morning for our flight to Cusco.
